"Mezzo Punto" spindles and needle, Italy, late 17th century. - Lot 154
"Mezzo Punto" spindles and needle, Italy, late 17th century. In mixed lace, the lace motifs are made in bobbins and decorated with various needle stitches, connected by scalloped flanges with pins. Light ivory-coloured linen One decorated with large motifs, flowers and foliage, in the spirit of Venice flat stitch. Cream-coloured linen. Dim. 75 cm x 8.5 cm, (restorations, small stains) And one with soft branches and small patterns : Dim. 1.35 m x 5 cm. (some accidents, restorations, posterior borders) Cf. p.40 pl.43 "The History of lace" Mrs Margaret Simeon. Two Italian "Mezzo Punto" types lace edgings dating from the end of the 17th cent. Linen thread, light ivory colour.
