Very rare neck border, needle, Flanders, mid 17th century. Of the "Opaque" type with dense decoration of small mirror motifs illuminated by a "belt" of very small straps with a picot: open flowers and buttons embedded in very fine foliage, made with a needle and entirely embroidered with small festoon stitches. Light ivory-coloured linen. The end is lengthened by a lace with later period bobbins. Dim. needle lace only: 41 cm x 9 cm. (good condition, scattered stains.) Cf. "L'Europe de la Dentelle" Mme Martine Bruggeman, p.123 A rare Dutch handmade needle lace with a dense motif of little flowers, dating from the middle of the 17th c. Linen thread, cream in colour.
