Rare border for a "Van Dyck" collar, needle, England, circa 1630-40. The in-between and border with the same motifs for a man's collar with a lapel, extremely finely crafted needlework, mirror decoration of blooming flowers articulated around a central medallion with stylised fruit and leaves, the in-between in perfect harmony with the scalloped border. Cream-coloured linen, laid on a burgundy silk. Dim. lace: 42 cm x 15.5 cm. (good general condition, fine restorations and small accidents) See "Lace a History" Mrs. Santina M. Levey, Fig.173 & 174. Edging of English needle lace, dating from about 1630-40, ornated with flowers in bloom extremely finely worked in needle. Linen thread, cream in colour, on a burgundy coloured silk.
