Border, Cut Point, Italy, 2nd half of the 16th century. In dark ivory hand-spun and hand-woven linen, needle-embroidered with eight horizontal stripes in Counted Stitch and Reticella, each one decorated with different motifs well in the spirit of Matteo Pagano's pattern books "Giardinetto Nicovo" or Giovanni Ostaus' "La Vera Perfettione del disegno". Pompon at every corner. Dim. 71 cm x 20,5 cm (good condition, a few stains on the reverse) An Italian sampler of hand spun and woven linen embroidered in Cut work and Reticella, dating from the 2nd half of the 16th c, similar design found in pattern book of Matteo Pagano "Giardinetto Nicovo" or Giovanni Ostaus "La Vera Perfettione del disegno". Dim. 71 cm x 20,5 cm (good condition, a few stains at the reverse)
